July 5, 2012 — The Shard, London’s latest skyscraper and the tallest building in western Europe, is to be inaugurated. Designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, the 310m-high building consists of offices, three floors of restaurants, the five-star Shangri-La hotel, residential apartments and a public viewing gallery offering 360-degree views of the capital. It is due to be open to the public next February. Graphic shows floor configuration of the Shard and a comparison with some of the world’s other iconic buildings.
